The mountains have always been very special to these two, after all, that’s where they met and fell in love.  When I shot their engagement session in Canmore earlier this winter, I knew it was going to be a special one, especially after hearing that all their friends and family were traveling from near and far to be there.

Their wedding was accented with hints of Elise’s dad’s incredible craftsmanship (from their ceremony arch, to the bench they sat on during their reception, even to the canoe where the bar was held), it all tied together perfectly.  They even did a tree planting ceremony, consisting of an olive tree, which was planted in dirt from both Elise and Rick’s parents’ properties.  Just wow.  It was such an honour to be a part of such a beautiful wedding full of tight knit friends and family.

      How did you meet?
We met at JPL during a staff BBQ at Trefoil Lake. My roommate worked with Rick and she kept going on and on to us both about how perfect we are for each other. After a few months at the staff bbq I finally wanted to see what all the fuss was about so I went up to him and that’s how we met!

      How did you get engaged?
We went to California for a holiday and went to Disneyland and then we went north to San Francisco. We were staying at a hotel just outside the city and we went for a hike up a hill to get a view of the bay. At the viewpoint there was a man sitting on his car smoking a cigar and Rick went and asked him to take our photo. While he was taking our photo Rick went down on one knee and I of course said yes!!

What is the most memorable moment from your wedding?
For us the ceremony was so special, with all of our friends and family around us we felt surrounded by love, joy, and support. The ceremony was in the same place we met which also made it so special.

If you could give one piece of advice to couples planning their wedding, what would it be?
I think hosting a welcome party and a brunch after the wedding was the best thing we could’ve done so we felt like we had more time to visit with everyone.

What was your most favourite wedding detail, and why?
My dad built the arch to be used for our ceremony and then we moved it to the reception venue afterwards. We will be using it in our garden once we buy a house!
