I absolutely love summer engagement sessions. The weather is warm and the greenery is out in full force. I first met Claire and Brendan at Brendan’s brother’s wedding. Needless to say, I’m so fortunate to be working with these two and having the opportunity to capture their beautiful backyard wedding.
We chose a property near and dear to Claire and Brendan. Brendan’s uncle owns the property we captured their session at. From beautiful serene views, to a forest and an open grassy field, it had it all. Usually for engagement sessions, I’m happy to suggest some locations that work well for pictures. That said, I’m always happy to take suggestions! If my couples have a location that holds sentiment or happy memories, I’m up for shooting there!
Like any summer engagement session, I usually come equipped with mosquito spray (and bear spray, depending on where we’re shooting). The last thing you want is to have to stop frequently to bat flies and mosquitoes away. You’ll want to enjoy the moment with your loved one without any little pesky pests. It’s also important to wear an outfit you’re comfortable in. I always recommend bringing an extra pair of shoes (if you’re wearing heels). That way, we can get from point A to point B with ease.
I prefer to shoot two hours before sunset, summer engagement sessions usually take place around 7 or 8pm depending on the month. That time is great because that time usually doesn’t impede with anyone’s work schedules. We also get that beautiful golden light at the end of the evening!
