I remember getting an email from Megan about her June 4th wedding and was instantly intrigued.  The details she was putting together for her wedding sounded like an absolute dream.  I’ll be honest in saying that I’ve always got butterflies shooting in a city that’s still foreign to me (Lethbridge, in this case), but wow.  The scenery was spectacular (as you’ll be able to see from the photographs) and their day couldn’t have gone any better!  From their beautiful, heartfelt ceremony right down to their amazing taco bar (note to self, don’t fill your burrito so full you can’t close it), their wedding was a photographer’s dream come true!
How did you get engaged?
One Friday in December I came home after work ready to start getting dressed for Owen’s work Christmas party. When I opened the door he had laid out a treasure hunt called the “12 Days of Christmas” which included my favorite things and reasons why he loved me at each clue. I had no idea it was a proposal until the last card. It was under the Christmas tree and when I finished reading it, Owen walked over to get down on his knee. We were both so happy and then we got to spend the rest of the night celebrating at the Christmas party. It was like our own engagement party!
What is the most memorable moment from your wedding?
We both agreed that seeing each other for the first time at the church, walking down the aisle, was something we will always remember. The looks on both our faces. The two of us also took a moment later in the night, on one of the hall balconies above the group of guests, to soak it all in. We felt so much joy in the room and everyone looked like they were having the best time. It’s an amazing feeling to realize that everyone there on that day is happy for you, loves you and is helping to celebrate the love you have found. It’s overwhelming when you think about it but in a very good way.
If you could give one piece of advice to couples planning their wedding, what would it be?
Start planning early and don’t drag it out. You will only stress and change your mind more!! Our engagement was just 6 months and we got a lot of the big things done as soon as we could within the first 3 weeks of being engaged. Make sure you listen the opinions of your partner as its a special day for both of you. You also don’t have to spend a lot to have a wonderful wedding. We looked for savings where we could and got creative making our wedding anything but “cookie cutter”.
